What is Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied Behavior Analysis is a science which seeks to better understand behavior, how the environment impacts those behaviors, and how to use this knowledge to promote learning. ABA therapy takes the knowledge gained from decades of research and applies those principles to make positive, lasting changes to those receiving services as well as their families.

A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is a Master’s level practitioner who has received coursework and training in conducting assessments, creating behavior intervention plans as well as skill acquisition plans, monitoring student progress, training parent’s and staff to implement behavior analytic procedures, and a variety of other skills. Compassion, sincerity, and determination are necessary qualities for these providers.

A Board Certified assistant Behavior Analyst (BCaBA) is an undergraduate provider who has received extensive training from a BCBA and has taken coursework from a certified college or institution. These providers work under the BCBA to conduct assessments, develop intervention and acquisition plans, monitor student progress, and most other skills that BCBAs are required to complete. These practitioners often use the BCaBA position as a stepping stone on their way to a full fledged BCBA.

Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) are the boots on the ground in the field of ABA. These are the heroes in the room working with your child. When the BCBA creates a treatment plan, the RBT works diligently to ensure the treatment plan is ran successfully. RBTs are trained in a variety of skills such as discrete trial training (DTT), natural environment training (NET), social skills training, prompting, behavior reduction, and much more. Consistent oversight from the BCBA ensures that these practitioners are prepared for anything thrown their way.

Most importantly, the parents, teachers, friends, and other stakeholders who support the growth and development of our client’s are the most important piece in making lasting change. Without your support, we can’t continue to change the lives of the client’s we care so deeply for.
